This week I am still trying new me authors - with mixed results. I also read the second book in a series that had a pretty good beginning. Check them out below.
Beacon's Spark by Jim Johnson
AWAKENING THE FATES
Even with a great girlfriend, a bestie, and visits with her
ailing grandpa, Rachel Farran feels isolated and lonely. When she stumbles into
the mystical Veil separating the mortal and spirit worlds, she encounters

crystal that can’t stop glowing.
Rachel soon discovers that she can manipulate magical ley
threads as a descendant of the ancient Fates and a Beacon for lost souls. But
when the malevolent being known as the Spinner harnesses the ley to drag
helpless souls through the Veil to devour them, can Rachel begin to trust

Hex on the Beach by Gina Lamanna
Welcome to The Isle...
Lily Locke has never believed in witches and wizards, ghosts
and magic, shifters and vampires—especially cute blonde vamps with
blood-intolerance issues. A rising star at a hotshot marketing agency in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, all Lily knows is that she’s a PowerPoint guru, an
Excel ninja, and a coffee-maker extraordinaire. Not to mention she’s next in
line for a huge promotion.
All that changes when Lily’s assistant delivers a strange
quiz to her, one titled A Magical Assessment for Normal Folks. With it comes
the promise of a land she's never known existed. A land where Lily not only
discovers her biological family for the first time, but a place where she can
make a difference, change lives, and step into the role she’s destined to
fulfill.
But first, Lily must admit she’s a witch. Then, she has to
acknowledge that the tall, dark, and mysterious man who offers his help is
strictly focused on business...at least, for now. When a body turns up dead and
the next target is Lily, she must trust her powers and accept the help of her
newfound friends. Otherwise, she'll never survive the trials of the magical
island tucked far, far away in the frigid waters of Lake Superior.
Welcome to The Isle.

Grave Mistake by Izzy Shows
Screw Up. Outcast. Wizard.
I am Blair Sheach, and my life will never be the same. New
found powers don't make a hero overnight, but somehow I've become the last line
of defense for the city of London. Vampires and demons crawl the streets, magic
cops suck at keeping them in line, and the easy job I took to pay my rent has
turned into something far more complicated. The cheating deadbeat my client
hired me to find just so happens to be the necromancer hell bent on destroying
London, and it's up to me to stop him.
I'm out of luck and out of time. And to save my city, the
decision I have to make is one I can't take back.

The Fallen Vampire by Beata Blitz
A freak accident at Chloe's seventeenth birthday party
reveals her psychic abilities, and the community responds by condemning her as
a witch who must be burned alive. As she attempts to escape across the
dystopian, war-ravaged territory of her homeland, she yearns for a chance to
find refuge and acceptance.
On the run and haunted by ghosts from her past, Chloe finds
herself at the center of a conflict between the warring factions of Cloud
Lords, shape-shifters from another dimension, alternately revered as angels and
reviled as demons by the subjugated human populace below.
A dispute between her people's rulers, the virile Drakonin
dragon shifters, and their sworn enemies, the night flying Vampirii, radically
alters Chloe's destiny when she brazenly intervenes in their struggle by
sheltering a fallen warrior.
Chloe comes face-to-face with Aethan, a prince among the
Vampirii, the most fearsome of the Cloud Lords, known for craving human blood.
She will share a forbidden connection with Aethan that could ultimately lead to
a place where her nascent power might bloom, provided she can survive the
perilous events that will test the bounds of her resolve and love.

Apocalpsis by Elle Casey
KAHAYATLE.
My name is Bryn Mathis. I'm seventeen years old, and I live
in a neighborhood outside of Orlando, Florida. I’m here alone because my dad
died almost a year ago, along with all the other adults in the world. I'm
almost out of food, and the gangs of kids that roam around my town are getting
more vicious by the day.
It's time for me to leave and find another place to live ...
a place where I can find food and shelter ... a place where they won't be able
to find me. Alone, it might have been possible, but now I've got company. I'm
worried that I don't have what it takes to get from here to my final
destination, and I have no idea what might be waiting for me when I get there.

Hunger Within by Megan Hawke
I'm Sable Hart, and I slay vampires.
It's not a bad living, until I cross the wrong vamp. Now I'm
undead, and really pissed off about it. The vamps think I'll obediently join
their ranks. Big mistake. I'm not a lay down and accept my dark fate kind of
girl.
Then I discover my Sire has very unsavory plans for Dallas.
There is no way I'll let that Russian vamp drag my hometown into the pits of
Hell. With supernatural strength, speed, and dark hungers, I will use them all
against my Sire and his army of undead.
I am the new sheriff in town, armed with stakes, silver
bullets, and a wicked sword. Vampires, you have been warned.

Alix by Virginia Hunter
Alix hadn’t always been gifted. In fact, she hadn’t been or
done much of anything until after she’d turned sixteen—that’s when things had
really gone south. Her mother was murdered, her father...well, no one knew
where he was. That left Alix on her own in a selfish world filled with people
who didn’t give a damn.
Nine years of hell had passed since her sweet sixteen, and
the discovery of her gift. So far, she’d managed to handle everything the world
had thrown at her. Everything, until Troy Sullivan strolled into the tattoo
parlor where she worked.
She had known men before, sure, but none of them could hold
a candle to the man that walked up to the counter, looking to get some art
done. As fate would have it, Alix finds herself on the run with the would-be
man of her dreams, while a band of fanatics, hellbent on finding her, give
chase.
All Alix had ever wanted was a normal life. What she’d
gotten was a messed up tragedy. And now, she’ll have to fight tooth and nail
just to keep that.
Building friendships isn’t easy...building a coven is even
harder. The Coven’s Grove Chronicles is a saga about the gathering of thirteen
women who possess extraordinary powers. Witches all, they must come together in
a sisterhood that will nurture and protect them. The secrets of the arcane will
be unlocked for each, if they survive long enough to learn. Join them on their
journeys of discovery and hardship, and of course, to meet the dashing men they
find along the way.
